Police: 18-year-old woman fatally struck by truck in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AP) — Police in Phoenix say they’re investigating the death of a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a pickup truck.

The name of the 18-year-old woman who died late Saturday night is being withheld until her relatives can be notified.

Police say the woman wasn’t in a crosswalk when she was struck.

She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police say the 21-year-old driver of the car remained at the scene for questioning and appeared to be impaired.

He was cited for DUI and released. His name hasn’t been released yet.

According to police, the man told investigators he saw the pedestrian in the roadway right before the collision but was unable to stop.

Police say speed doesn’t appear to be a factor in the fatal incident.
