EL PASO, Texas -- The El Paso County Parks and Recreation are in need of employees, specifically lifeguards, to ensure for a summer of swimming, safety and sensational fun.

Nai Holloway, the Aquatics Manager for the County, told ABC-7 the lifeguarding shortage is a nation wide issue that had actually started before the pandemic but was only exacerbated due to Covid-19.

Right now the County is looking for around 25-30 lifeguards.

“The more the better, because now we’re still going through the pandemic so we want to make sure we have extra staff," Holloway said.

To help in recruiting lifeguards, the county is providing up to an $800 incentive which would begin when you sign until the end of the season in September. Meanwhile starting pay starts at $13/hr and ranges to $16/hr depending on experience.

The only requirement is that you are American Red Cross Lifeguard certified. If you have a certification through a different program, the County can transfer you over tot he Red Cross and if you don't have a certification at all you just need to be willing to get one.

“We encourage everyone from youth to retirees to apply for the lifeguarding position and go through the certification it’s a very rewarding position," Holloway said.
