Sunday Funday Moment: Strength and hope help El Paso mom overcome 2-year cancer battle

Iris Lopez

Today's Sunday Funday moment is a reminder that no matter what obstacles are thrown our way, we can overcome them as long as we have strength and hope.

Corina Hernandez was diagnosed with cervical cancer on October 16th back in 2017.

After multiple treatments of both radiation and chemotherapy, Corina was in remission up until July 3rd of this year. It was then when doctors discovered that her cancer had spread to her lymph nodes.

"She was told by those doctors that it didn’t look too good for her," said Corina's son, Thomas.

Corina never gave up and never quit on herself. According to her son, she fought everyday and on October 23rd she was able to ring the cancer bell to celebrate being cancer free!

Thomas posted the video of Corina ringing the bell on his Twitter page writing, " In 2017 you were first diagnosed. You beat it. 3 months ago, it came back and they gave you a limited amount of time. Today you stand cancer free, I can’t explain how proud I am of you, this journey has been rough, some of the hardest times we’ve been through. I love you mom."
