Elementary student taken to hospital after school bus crash in Santa Teresa
SANTA TERESA, New Mexico (KVIA) -- A student at Santa Teresa Elementary School was taken to the hospital by his parents on Monday after the school bus he was in was t-boned by a car.
The crash happened around 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of McNutt Road and Leeds Drive.
Gadsden Independent School District spokesman Luis Villalobos said the bus was carrying 35 Santa Teresa Elementary students. He said four of the students stated they felt they were injured.
School nurses went to evaluate the four students and they determined none of them had significant injuries. The parents of one of the students opted to take their child to a nearby hospital.
The school district said the bus suffered significant damage estimated to cost between $15,000 to $20,000 to repair.
Sunland Park Police cited the 36-year-old woman who was driving the car that struck the bus for failure to yield. The woman's identity was not released by police.
