Virus death toll up to 83 in El Paso, ICU patients also up; top doctor warns curve has not flattened
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso Department of Public Health reported three new coronavirus deaths and 39 new cases on Tuesday as the county's top doctor warned that the curve in our area has not yet flattened.
The latest virus victims are a women and two men who were all in their 80s with underlying health issues.
“We send our sincere condolences to the loved ones of our latest Covid-19 victims," said City/County Health Authority Dr. Hector Ocaranza. "We also wish to remind El Pasoans that our community’s curve will not flatten until each of us realizes our own responsibilities to prevent the spread."
There have now been 2,833 cases since the pandemic reached El Paso. Of those, 1,046 are active. More than 1,700 El Pasoans have now recovered.
Hospitalizations have dropped from 99 to 96, but the number of patients in the ICU rose from 56 to 59, and 29 people remain on ventilators. More than 60 percent of patients are in the intensive care unit.
Free coronavirus testing has been extended in El Paso County until June 12.
