‘Possible suspect’ arrested in connection with missing New Mexico 5-year-old in Amber Alert

A man was in custody in connection with an Amber Alert issued for a 5-year-old northern New Mexico girl, authorities said Monday afternoon.

Renezme Calzada was last seen playing in her front yard in Espanola on Sunday morning.

But investigators said the girl’s disappearance went unreported for nearly ten hours. Her mother called 911 to report her daughter missing around 6 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators did not release much information on the man in custody, but said he was arrested on outstanding warrants and that it was “possible that he was a suspect.”

Officials said the case remained an active investigation and their current focus was to find Renezme.

Authorities said she is 4 feet tall with long, dark hair and brown eyes. She was reportedly last seen wearing blue shorts with stars and a “Frozen” shirt.

Authorities ask anyone with information to call the Rio Arriba County Sherriff’s Office at 505-753-5555.
