Police chase ends in car crash that knocks out power in Fabens area; 6 men in custody

A car being chased by multiple police agencies, including U.S. Border Patrol, crashed Tuesday afternoon into a power pole, disrupting electrical service for hundreds of people in the Fabens area.

The crash happened at 15571 Socorro Road at 12:53 p.m.

The short chase began when a deputy with the San Elizario Marshal’s Office attempted to pull over the car for a traffic violation at 12:44 p.m. in the 12600 block of Socorro Road.

“The deputy was exiting his patrol unit when the driver drove off and fled from the officer,” said Marshal Roberto Hernandez. “The pursuit resulted in the vehicle colliding into an electric pole.”

Six men ran from the car after it crashed and were caught by federal agents and Texas state troopers.

The driver, identified as Alfredo Dominguez Jr., was charged with evading arrest and reckless driving. Authorities also said he has a prior criminal record, but did not offer further details.

The five passengers were being held while Border Patrol officials worked to determine their citizenship status.

The downed pole from the crash resulted in a power outage in the area around Socorro Road and Fabens Road, affecting about 250 El Paso Electric customers. Utility crews were able to eventually restore service to residents in the area.
