Driver arrested after leading state troopers on high-speed chase through northeast El Paso

A 28-year-old motorist was arrested after leading state troopers on a high-speed chase through northeast El Paso on Tuesday night, a Texas Department of Public Safety official told ABC-7.

Christoper Charles Burkholder was facing a charge of evading arrest after being taken into custody at Prince Edward Avenue and Rushing Road, where the nine-minute chase ended at 9:18 p.m.

Authorities said the chase began at 9:09 p.m. after Burkholder was initially pulled over for a speeding violation at McCombs Street and Sun Court Circle, but then took off on the trooper.

The reason why the driver fled was still unclear, DPS said. A passenger in Burkholder’s car was not charged and was released at the scene.

Troopers said no one was injured during the chase.
