Counterfeit money being passed around to east El Paso food delivery drivers

KVIA file

EL PASO, Texas -- Police warned Friday of another round of counterfeit cash being passed around El Paso.

This time, authorities said the victims of the fake currency have been numerous food delivery drivers on the city's east side.

"Food deliveries are ordered to random addresses by persons using spoofed phone numbers," explained Sgt. Enrique Carrillo. "The offenders involved approach the delivery drivers before the drivers reach the address on the order and pay using counterfeit money."

The fake bills have been printed on paper that has an unusual texture, he said.

Police said anyone who encounters the counterfeit cash, or has information about it, should call the department at (915) 212-4759.
