EL PASO, Texas -- A massive weekend crackdown after recent violence in El Paso's Cincinnati bar area resulted in over 20 arrests by local, state and federal authorities, officials said Tuesday.

El Paso police indicated the effort involved its gang and SWAT units as well as Texas Dept. of Public Safety troopers, FBI agents and Fort Bliss military police.

In all, 21 people were arrested this past Saturday, officials said; 15 of those arrests were for drugs, three for traffic violations, two for public intoxication and one for drunk driving.

"The operation was in response to several violent incidents that have occurred there (in the Cincinnati District) over the past few weeks," said El Paso police Sgt. Enrique Carrillo.
