Man found shot in car, seriously wounded in northeast El Paso

EL PASO, Texas -- An 18-year-old man was shot and seriously wounded early Wednesday in northeast El Paso.

The shooting happened about 1 a.m. in the 4000 block of Moonlight Avenue near the intersection with Mercury.

Police said in a statement that they found shooting victim Jose Martin Espinosa-Fortuna "sitting in a vehicle in the middle of the (street), with a gunshot wound to his torso."

Espinosa-Fortuna was rushed from the scene by ambulance and remained hospitalized Wednesday afternoon in stable condition with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators indicated they were still trying to determine what led up to the shooting.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday afternoon and police had no immediate description of any shooting suspect.
