EL PASO, Texas -- A man sought for felony manslaughter in the shooting death of an infant, initially though to be an accident, was captured Monday by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office fugitive unit.

Jesse David Gonzalez, 31, was booked into the downtown jail on $250,000 bond.

Deputies said they were flagged down on June 18 near the 700 block of Ascencion Road near Horizon City for a 10-month-old boy in a car who had been shot. The boy was rushed to an area hospital where he died a few hours later.

Investigators initially thought the shooting was an accident, but later said they determined "Gonzalez was responsible for the child's death."

Authorities did not elaborate, however, on why they initially thought it was accidental or discuss the evidence uncovered that led them instead conclude it was a manslaughter case.
