Victim ID’d in July 4th shooting in far east El Paso; no arrests yet

UPDATE, July 8: El Paso police on Thursday identified the victim of a July 4th shooting on the city's far east side as 42-year-old Nelson Maldonado.

Detectives said he survived the shooting on Beacham Street and remained hospitalized at Del Sol Medical Center in stable condition.

Police indicated no arrests had yet been made, saying the shooter fled the scene that night. Authorities didn't reveal any motive for the shooting.

ORIGINAL REPORT, July 5: EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating a shooting on the city's far east side.

It happened around 10 p.m. Sunday in the 4700 block of Beacham Street.

Police said the shooting victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police have not released any additional information on the victim, and there was no word yet on any arrests.
