Police identify motorist killed in Lower Valley crash; still don’t know why car ran into pole

UPDATE, May 4: Police on Tuesday identified a man killed in Lower Valley traffic crash the day prior, but investigators still don't know what caused his car to run into a pole.

Authorities said the victim, 52–year old Oswaldo Wong of El Paso, struck a traffic light signal pole at the intersection of Lomaland and Burnham Road.

He died at the scene following the crash, which remains under investigation.

ORIGINAL REPORT, May 3: EL PASO, Texas -- A motorist was killed in a single-car crash late Monday afternoon at a Lower Valley intersection, fire officials confirmed to ABC-7.

The car struck a pole about 4:30 p.m. at Lomaland and Burnham.

El Paso police initially said the crash victim had suffered life-threatening injuries, but the fire department indicated the victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

No further details were immediately available.
