Water service restored after main break in west El Paso

UPDATE #2: As of 9 p.m. Monday, El Paso Water officials said water service had been restored from the main break earlier in the day near N. Stanton Street and Buckingham Drive in west El Paso.

"Thanks to the crews who worked through the evening to restore service. Residents, thank you for your patience," EP Water tweeted Monday night.

UPDATE: EP Water officials said two portable water trucks were being set up Monday evening at 4433 N. Stanton Street, outside the condominiums located there, and also at the intersection of Canterburry and Stanton to provide water for residents without service due to the earlier main break.

ORIGINAL REPORT: EL PASO, Texas -- A water main break in a west El Paso neighborhood Monday afternoon left some nearby residents without water service, according to utility officials.

El Paso Water told ABC-7 that a contractor working at the intersection of N. Stanton Street and Buckingham Drive broke a 16-inch water line around noon.

"Water service is being impacted in the surrounding area and north of the intersection," EP Water tweeted, but the utility didn't indicate exactly how many of its customers lost service.

Repair work was underway, but EP Water couldn't estimate when that work would be completed. The utility asked motorists to avoid the Stanton and Buckingham intersection so as not to disrupt the efforts to fix the ruptured main.
