Investigators say Mustang was at a complete stop on I-10 before deadly crash

UPDATE (7:00 p.m.) -- Investigators say the driver of a Ford Mustang was at a complete stop on I-10 west just as a 2015 GMC Sierra slammed into the car.

The driver of the Mustang died. He's been identified as 22-year-old Isaias Joel Garcia of Vinton.

The driver of the Sierra was identified as Juana Elizabeth Caballero Macias, a 29-year-old Las Cruces resident. Her passenger was 23-year-old Christina Hernandez, also from Las Cruces. Police say both were taken to the hospital due to their injuries.

Police say investigators do not know why the Mustang was stopped on I-10.

EL PASO -- Police say the crash on I-10 west near Sunland Park Drive - has turned deadly.

According to El Paso Police, two vehicles - a pickup truck and a Mustang crashed just before 3 a.m. Monday morning.

Police have not said how many people were involved in the crash, a spokesman said at least one person died, but it remains unclear if there were any other deadly victims.

Video taken by ABC-7 crews show - the pickup truck with heavy damage to its front and the back of the mustang completely destroyed - a large amount of debris could be seen spread across the highway.

I-10 west remains shut down - police are diverting westbound traffic through the Sunland Park exit. Police have not said how long it will take to reopen I-10.
