SHAKIRA’S VOICE HEALED WITHOUT SURGERY

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) – Shakira believes her voice has healed “miraculously.” She suffered a vocal cord hemorrhage in late 2017. Her doctors recommended surgery that was potentially risky, and Shakira opted not to have it. Her voice recovered slowly, but it meant she could not speak for long periods of time. Shakira says she had taken her singing for granted, but there was a time when she thought she might not sing again. Shakira is looking forward to the Super Bowl halftime show in February with Jennifer Lopez. Shakira says she will celebrate Latin culture with that performance. It’s also her birthday, and she jokes she’ll be celebrating with 100 million people.

SPANX FOUNDER SAYS SHE BOUGHT OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN’S “GREASE” PANTS

NEW YORK (AP) – The founder of the underwear company Spanx says she had to own Olivia Newton-John’s black pants from “Grease” because they inspired one of Spanx’s most popular items. Sara Blakeley tells CBS’ “Good Morning America” the pants that Newton-John wore in the final scene for “Grease” were the inspiration for the Spanx faux-leather leggings. Blakely calls Newton-John “the OG of black leggings.” Blakeley had the winning bid of $162,500 for the pants in an auction over the weekend. Newton-John’s leather jacket from that movie sold to another bidder for just over $243,000. A portion of the proceeds of the auction will go to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre in Australia.
