Vaughn and Scott each opened the season with double-doubles as Vaughn grabbed 10 rebounds and Scott 13.
Tyrei Randall added 20 points and seven for the Broncs, who owned the boards 51-38. Stevie Jordan had 17 points for Rider.
Kamar McKnight had 24 points for the Eagles. Dejuan Clayton added 17 points and six rebounds. Aaron Robinson had 15 points. Koby Thomas added 10 boards and seven points.
Rider plays Delaware State on the road on Friday. Coppin State matches up against Virginia Tech on the road on Friday.
