While Duke doesn’t have the star-studded freshmen class of last season of Zion Williamson, Cam Reddish and RJ Barrett, coach Mike Krzyzewski may have a more balanced team that made plays down the stretch when needed.
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Newcomer Jahmi’us Ramsey led No. 13 Texas Tech with 19 points as the much-changed Red Raiders opened the season with an 85-60 win over Eastern Illinois. The opener came seven months Tech lost in overtime to Virginia in the national championship team. Davide Moretti, the only returning starter from last season’s team, had 13 points.
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Austin Reaves scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half to help Oklahoma defeat Texas-San Antonio 85-67 in the season opener for both teams. Reaves, a transfer from Wichita State, made 8 of 13 shots in the second half after going 1 for 7 in the first.
WACO, Texas (AP) — NaLyssa Smith and preseason AP All-America post Lauren Cox had double-doubles for No. 2 Baylor and the defending national champion Lady Bears opened the season with a 97-29 win over New Hampshire. Smith had 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Lady Bears, while Cox had 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting with 10 rebounds.
MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Cartier Diarra had 23 points, six rebounds and six assists, Makol Mawien had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Kansas State beat North Dakota State 67-54 in a season opener. The Wildcats took the floor in Manhattan for the first time since winning the Big 12 regular-season championship last season.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Graduate transfer quarterback Alex Delton has left TCU’s team after not playing in the past two games. Coach Gary Patterson acknowledged the departure of Delton during his weekly news conference Tuesday. Delton started the first two games, but freshman Max Duggan has started the last six since. Duggan is dealing with an injured middle finger on his throwing hand. Patterson thinks Duggan will be ready to play Saturday against No. 11 Baylor after getting hurt last week.
