Here is the latest SEC sports news from The Associated Press

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Forget the Heisman, maybe quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa can settle the question of who has the better wide receivers. No. 1 LSU’s Burrow and No. 2 Alabama’s Tagovailoa both could make a strong case going into Saturday’s game.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama’s Student Government Association has warned students they could lose their block seating for the rest of the season if they “engage in disruptive behavior” during the LSU game. Jason Rothfarb, the SGA’s vice president of student affairs, sent out a letter citing the increased security at Saturday’s game between the second-ranked Crimson Tide and No. 1 LSU.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — While LSU, Alabama and Georgia are working on their College Football Playoff credentials, much of the Southeastern Conference would regard those as rich program problems. Teams like South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi State and Kentucky are battling for bowl eligibility.

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi State is spending its off week looking to maintain the momentum it picked up by ending a four-game skid in convincing fashion. The Bulldogs ended their losing streak last week with a 54-24 blowout of struggling Arkansas. They face a much tougher challenge next as they prepare to host No. 2 Alabama on Nov. 16.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Savion Flagg scored 22 points as Texas A&M started the Buzz Williams era with a 77-63 victory over Northwestern State. Flagg, a junior forward and the team’s top returning player, made 9 of 11 shots from the field in Texas A&M’s opener.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Jeremiah Tilmon scored 16 points and blocked five shots to lead Missouri to an 82-42 victory over Incarnate Word in the season opener for both teams.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Vanderbilt ended a 20-game losing streak in Jerry Stackhouse’s coaching debut, and Aaron Nesmith led the way with 25 points, including a career-high seven 3-pointers in an 83-65 win over Southeast Missouri State. Stackhouse inherited a 9-23 team that is coming off the worst season in school history, including a 0-18 record in the Southeastern Conference under former coach Bryce Drew.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Justin Minaya had 17 points and a career-high 11 rebounds to lead South Carolina to its 19th straight season-opening victory 77-55 over North Alabama on Wednesday night. Minaya missed all but five games a year ago with a knee injury. But the 6-foot-6 sophomore forward looked like he hadn’t missed a step in matching his career best in points and surpassing his previous rebounding high.
