Man sentenced as habitual felon

    Burnsville (WLOS) — A Yancey County man has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for numerous driving offenses and for being a habitual felon.

Marvin Jack Taylor was convicted on Oct. 22 of felony flee to elude Arrest with a motor vehicle, resisting a public officer, driving while license revoked, aggressive driving, misdemeanor hit and run and Injury to real property. Taylor was also identified as a habitual felon by the district attorney’s office.

According to a news release from court officials, Taylor drove recklessly on Highway 19 in Burnsville in an attempt to escape from a Yancey County Sheriff’s Deputy on Aug. 22, 2017. After driving his vehicle on the wrong side of the road, Taylor eventually wrecked in a field.

Superior Court Judge Peter Knight sentenced Taylor to prison for a minimum of six years and six months and a maximum of eight years and 10 months.
