Vets encourage fellow veterans to continue service to each other

    TUCSON, AZ (KGUN) — Veteran’s will share their stories at VFW Post 10188.

“O.C.S. isn’t a picnic. It’s a lot of work and a lot of abuse to your body, not to mention there weren’t very many women in it,” said Bertha M. Gripp, a retired Army Captain.

“My father was a full time military man,” Gripp said.

“He was Army. If he’d been alive I don’t think I would be in the service because he didn’t believe in women being in the service.”

Captain Gripp is peeling potatoes to serve veterans and others participating in the 100th Veterans Day parade.

“I think the main thing I think about is that everyone of us are equal.”

Like her service to the country, Captain Gripp sees the task of peeling potatoes as a service to her fellow veterans.

It’s that concept she hopes to spread on Veterans Day.

Captain Gripp says it could be something as simple as cooking up a meal for fellow veteran or sharing information with them about a support group, she says she considers it her unfinished duty.

“I think more veterans out there, no matter what you’re doing: peeling potatoes, visiting on the block, if you see somebody, talk to them.”
