Mauricio Casillas was born and raised in El Paso, and is passionate about telling stories in the Borderland.
Mauricio is the co-anchor of Good Morning El Paso. He started his career with KVIA as the station's first ever Traffic anchor, and also worked as an overnight reporter.
After that, he was promoted to the anchor of the weekend morning show and reported throughout the week. Mauricio then worked as the anchor of the 4 p.m. show Monday - Friday, and reported for the 10 p.m. newscast.
Mauricio has extensive experience covering border issues and politics. His reporting on the surge in immigration in the Borderland garnered a Texas AP Broadcasters Award.
Mauricio knew he wanted to pursue journalism after joining the newspaper staff at Franklin High School. Mauricio is an Arizona State University alumnus. He graduated with his bachelor's in journalism and a master's in mass communication.
Mauricio is a die-hard fan of Dallas sports teams and the Arizona State Sun Devils. In his free time, he enjoys watching movies and playing soccer.
