Shelby Montgomery was born and raised in Las Cruces and graduated from Las Cruces High School in 2012.
After graduating, she enrolled at New Mexico State University, where she initially studied Biology. Shelby changed majors and is currently studying Journalism and Mass Communications with an emphasis in broadcast. Shelby is also pursuing a minor in Government. She is set to graduate in December 2018.
During her time at NMSU, Shelby reported, produced and anchored for the college's student-produced live newscast News22.
Shelby interned at KVIA in the summer of 2017. After a few months as an intern, she was offered a job as an Associate Producer. Since then, she has moved up to a Producer, producing the 4 P.M., 5 P.M., 6 P.M., and the 10 P.M. newscasts. Shelby says working behind the scenes was the foundation she needed to become the best reporter she can be.
Shelby is now the Good Morning El Paso Weekend morning anchor/producer, and a reporter throughout the week.
In between going to school full time and working full time, Shelby says she loves to spend time with her family, experience the outdoors and travel. She says her goal is to travel to a new city every year. She has bot been overseas yet, but she says that is definitely on her to-do list.
Shelby says she is excited to begin her career in news and looks forward to the new adventures and experiences at KVIA.
You can catch her bright and early on GMEP Weekend at 6 and 8 in the morning.
