Erik Elken, main co-anchor

Erik Elken joined KVIA in September 2018 and is honored to now co-anchor the station's flagship newscasts with Stephanie Valle after sharing the anchor duties with Estela Casas before her retirement.
Erik also serves as the television play-by-play announcer for UTEP football and men's basketball broadcasts on ESPN3 and ESPN+.
Erik came to the Borderland from Dayton, Ohio, where he worked nearly four-and-a-half years. He first served as the station's Sports Director before making a full transition into anchoring and news reporting.
Erik moved to Ohio from Eugene, Oregon, where he was a Sports Anchor/Reporter for KEZI. He covered the Pac-12 and his favorite assignment was covering the 2015 National Championship game between Ohio State and Oregon at AT&T Stadium.
Erik also served as the play-by-play announcer for the Tri-City ValleyCats (Single-A, Houston Astros) for one season.
Born in New Jersey and a native of Albany, New York, Erik graduated from Syracuse University with a dual degree in Broadcast Journalism and Sport Management.
He is excited to call El Paso home with his wife, Megan, and their two sons. He's thrilled to join the talented team at ABC-7 and appreciates the friendliness of the people in the Sun City.
Erik enjoys spending time with his family, traveling (which is slightly more difficult with a toddler) and skiing. He's a big fan of the New York Rangers, New York Giants, New York Mets and, of course, the Syracuse Orange.
You can catch Erik anchoring weeknights at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. and also out in the field reporting. Feel free to send him any tips or story ideas by emailing him or reaching out to him on social media.
