German Air Force says goodbye to Fort Bliss family

FORT BLISS - Arriving 11 years after World War two ended, the German Air Force Air Defense is now on its way out of Fort Bliss.

The ceremony took place this morning on the main parade field at Fort Bliss.

The German Air Force Air Defense Gidon was encased for the final time in preparation for the head back home.

The air force and air defense training unit will relocate to Husum, Germany.

Over 65,000 German airmen and airwomen have trained at Fort Bliss since the unit arrived in 1956.

The German Army trained on Nike, Hawk and Patriot Weapon systems which they are currently using in the Ukrainian war.
