Mother killed while trying to retrieve son’s cell phone from west El Paso street

EL PASO, Texas – A 37-year-old woman walking with her adult son Monday night died after trying to recover a cell phone that her son had dropped on the road.

El Paso police say Celia Coria was hit by a 2001 GMC Sierra driven by 22-year-old Jesus Gomez when she went back to the street she and her son had just crossed.

It happened just before 10 p.m. at 135 Shadow Mountain Drive.

Coria was taken to University Medical Center where she later died.
