Organ Mountain football player takes a turn for the worse

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- Abe Romero, the Organ Mountain football player who was hospitalized after a football-related injury two weeks ago, is now in critical condition at the hospital, according to a social media post from Organ Mountain high school.

The Facebook post says, "This is a hard one. Abe has taken a turn for the worse and is in critical condition."

The post says the hospital is allowing teammates to visit Romero because of his condition. The JV football game was canceled Saturday so players could visit the hospital.

Romero was injured during a football game in Deming on Aug. 26, and had to be airlifted to University Medical Center where he was put in a medically-induced coma.
