Local amusement park bought by Traders Village Marketplace
EL PASO, Texas - El Paso area staple Western Playland Amusement Park was bought by Traders Village Marketplace, which is headquartered in Grand Prairie, TX. It's the latest acquisition for the company that runs three flea markets in Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston.
According to Traders Village's website, the company has been around since 1973. Each of the three flea markets offers rides, events, and thousands of vendors.
“Providing a memorable family experience has always been a top priority at Traders Village,” said Tim Anderson, President of Traders Village Marketplaces. “Western Playland with over 60 acres and 26 rides, complements our brand nicely.”
Western Playland has been located in Sunland Park, NM, since moving from Ascarate Park in El Paso's south-central area.
Patrick Thomson's family has owned Western Playland since 1960 and offered Borderland residents entertainment for the entire family.
“I’m honored to have Traders Village continue the Western Playland tradition of serving family fun to the El Paso area,” said Thomson, who is retiring.
Western Playland is over 60 acres and has 26 rides for families to enjoy. Traders Village plans to expand and install more rides, food and drink choices, concerts and other seasonal events.
Western Playland is scheduled to reopen in late February 2023 for the new season.
