Pedestrian killed after he was hit while walking on roadway

UPDATE -- El Paso Police have identified the pedestrian that died Sunday morning after he was struck while walking on a Northeast El Paso roadway.

Investigators say 38- year-old Eddie Santana was walking in the middle of the roadway when he was struck by a 2016 Chevy Equinox, which was traveling northbound on Martin Luther King Jr.

Meanwhile the driver of a semi-trailer was behind the Equinox. Police say the driver avoided to hit the pedestrian in the roadway.

However, a portion of the semi-trailer struck Santana. He died on the scene.

It is unknown why Santana was walking on the roadway.

This is the 61st traffic fatality compared to 57 at this same time last year.

EL PASO, Texas - A person is dead after a a semi-truck vs. pedestrian crash in Northeast El Paso, according to El Paso Police.

The crash happened near the 12800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd early Sunday morning, according to police.

Special Traffic Investigators have been called out to the scene.
