ORIGINAL REPORT, May 15: ANTHONY, Texas -- One person was killed and another seriously injured Saturday morning when they were struck by a vehicle while waiting alongside Interstate 10 between Anthony and Vinton for authorities following a crash.

The pair had crashed their SUV into a concrete barrier on I-10 westbound in far west El Paso County about 2 a.m. and safely escaped to wait for first-responders when debris from their wreck apparently triggered the second crash, sheriff's deputies said.

One of the two struck died at the scene, while the other was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, officials indicated.

As of late Saturday morning, sheriff's investigators remained on scene along I-10 westbound at mile marker 0 and said they expected the highway to be closed until around the noon hour.
