2 UTEP Football Players Arrested, Charged With Robbery

EL PASO–A couple ofUTEP football players have been suspended from the team after they were arrested and charged with Robbery, according to university officials.

Daniel Palmer, 19, was arrested Monday and Nick Samson, 19, was arrested Tuesday. Both have since bonded out and are awaiting a court date.Palmer is a sophomore running back from College Station, Texas.Sampson is a sophomore defensive back from Houston.

According El Paso Police DepartmentInvestigators, Palmer and Samson were approached by a man selling ahome entertainmentsystem Monday afternoon. The man selling the system was asked to follow them to the 500 block of S. Mesa Hills, according to police investigators.

Once at the location, Samson and Palmer allegedly assaulted the man, police officials said. The alleged victim tried to run away but was stopped by both men and was assaulted again, police officials added.

Samson and Palmer then allegedly stole the system and fled the scene. The men were tracked down by police a short while later and were identified by the victim.

UTEP Athletic Director Bob Stull said both will remain suspended from the team until the charges are dropped. “[They] have been suspended from athletics practice and participation until the charges are dropped, dismissed or otherwise resolved,” he said.

UTEPHead Coach Mike Pricesaid he was surprisedby the arrests.”They haven’t done anything wrong before and have been good student-athletes in our program,” he said.

The investigation is still ongoing. The alleged victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident.
