Estela Casas: Exercise Program Is Tough But Rewarding

by ABC-7 Primetime Anchor Estela Casas

Everything hurts!

My left knee is sore and feels loose.

My neck and ankles need stretching – it feels good when I turn them clockwise and counter clockwise and hear them pop.

My right wrist is also bothering me.

But aside from all the aches and pains, I’m enjoying my new exercise routine. A little over two years I reluctantly began taking a spinning class and now I can’t give it up. Three weeks ago I began working with a personal trainer. I spin three days a week and do weights the other two — I take a break on the weekends.

My trainer has been trying new exercises to “trick” my body and make it work more efficiently. So those changes triggered new muscles to work and stretch and ache! I guess I’ll begin seeing results when I change my diet and cut carbs and sugars!

But my goal is to not give up. The older you get the tougher it is to find the energy, passion, dedication and patience. But I’m going to stick it out. I feel that if I stop or even slow down a little bit everything I’ve accomplished will fade and fade quickly. I don’t strive to get six-pack abs or bulging biceps – I just want to slow down the aging process and keep my skin from hanging from my knees and upper arms.

So I’ll just keep feeling the aches and pains of a strenuous exercise program and here’s hoping time will catch up with me later, rather than sooner!
