El Paso Police arrest man in connection with alleged car racing that resulted in death in January
March 6, 2014 Update:El Paso Police have arrested Jaccob Jerald Pryor in connection with a deadly crash in which 16-year-old Alonzo Perez was killed.
Police have charged 19-year-old Pryor with racing on a highway causing death and racing on highway causing serious bodily injury.
Pryor was taken into custody on late Wednesday in the 5500 block of Oakbriar Cir. West El Paso and booked into the El Paso County Jail on the two outstanding charges and his bonds total $20,000.
Perez was killed on the afternoon of Jan. 23 when the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta Perez was driving crashed into a traffic pole on the 1300 block of Resler Drive.
El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigations unit previously said Perez was racing an unidentified vehicle just before the crash at 4:24 p.m. Police believe Pryor was the driver of the other vehicle.
Investigators said Perez’s friend, 16-year-old Irvin Barba, was in the passenger seat before the accident. The two were transported to University Medical Center where Perez died of his injuries.
The car hit the pole at such a high rate of speed it split into multiple pieces.
