South Central residents to vote on Glenwood Street construction
Residents living in South Central El Paso may finally get an important road fixed.
Monday the public will decide whether to have Glenwood Street completely restructured or re-surfaced.
It’s part of the city’s South Central streets project.
City Representative’s Cortney Niland and Emma Acosta are holding Monday’s special meeting.
Residents ABC-7 spoke with say it’s about time:
“They forget about us here in the southside that’s just the way it is,” resident Louis Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez has lived on Glenwood Street his entire life. He says it’s good news his road may finally get the care it deserves.
“As you can see just driving out of my drive way there are pot holes there that are taking a beating on my vehicles,” Rodriguez said.
Monday residents will decide whether to have their road completely reconstructed or just re-surfaced.
Walking down Glenwood Street you can see a lot of the portions of the road are cracked. You can can also see there aren’t any sidewalks. Acosta says they’re going to talk with residents about the possibility of giving up a portion of their land to add them.
In May dozens attended a similar meeting. Residents voted to reconstruct the area between Alameda Avenue and the Border Highway. But the gathering didn’t come with out frustration
“Here it is now in 2017 when it was originally scheduled to get done when supposedly it’s going to get done now,” one resident said.
“I understand why they’re frustrated I would be too,” Niland said.
Acosta says the money is coming from certificates of obligation passed in 2012. While the project will mean putting up with construction, residents like Rodriguez say that won’t bother them.
The meeting is at 5:30 p.m. at theHousing Authority of the City of El Paso, 5300 East Paisano Drive, Room 706.
