El Diario: 3 with ties to El Paso killed in recent Juarez violence
At least three of the people recently killed in Juarez were from or lived in El Paso, according to El Diario de Juarez.
On Thursday and Friday, 24 people were killed in parts of west and southeast Juarez.
Among the dead, investigators said, are Eduardo Alvarado, 17-year-old Israel Perez Loera and Carlos Ernesto Alvarado Díaz. The three victims are believed to have ties to El Paso, El Diario reported.
Mexican authorities said there could be more as there are still many other victims to identify.
On Sunday, Mexican law enforcement said four alleged sicarios, or hit men, were arrested in connection with the killings. Authorities said the suspects were in possession of guns and drugs, including a 16-year-old suspect who had an assault rifle.
El Diario also reports the rise in violence is attributed to a dispute among members of the Aztecas, who are known as the enforcement arm of the Juarez cartel.
At a news conference, Juarez Mayor Armando Cabada issued a stern warning saying that anyone who tries to hurt or murder someone in Juarez will feel the full force of the judicial system.
In 2017, Juarez media, along with Chihuahua state police, reported 772 people were killed in drug-related violence.
The figure is up from 2016, when 546 people were killed, but miniscule compared to 2010, when more than 3,000 homicides were reported.
Cabada has asked for 250 Mexican federal officers to be sent to Juarez.
