U.S. Marshals: Wanted Barrio Azteca gang members armed and extremely dangerous

The U.S. Marshals Service is looking for two wanted fugitives, said to be members of the Barrio Azteca gang, with a violent criminal history.

Both fugitives should be considered armed and extremely dangerous, officials said.

33-year-old Jose Zapata and 46-year-old Jose Alfredo Morales are wanted on charges originating out of New Mexico for discharging their weapons in two separate incidents, federal officials said.

Zapata was allegedly identified as the shooter in a Chaparral drive-by where he allegedly shot into a home in a possible gang related shooting.

Zapata, wanted for probation violation, has a history of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and drug trafficking charges. He is known to regularly carry a firearm and is considered armed and dangerous. Federal officials said Zapata was also involved in a recent kidnapping, which may result in additional charges.

Morales is wanted in New Mexico in connection with a drive-by shooting. He is facing charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon resulting in great bodily harm or death, child abuse not resulting in great bodily harm or death, probation violation/absconder, evading arrest, misconduct Involving weapons, and DWI.

Morales allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend with a knife at the Petro gas station on West way Blvd. and I-10 just a few weeks ago, officials said. Morales is known to carry a gun or knife with him at all times, officials added.
