Summer camp with horses opens Monday for Borderland children

EL PASO, Texas -- The Horses Unlimited Rescue and Education Center is holding a summer camp for local kids on Monday.

The center works with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office to house rescued horses.

"Ninety-five percent of the horses that are here are from abuse situation or neglect situations, and we rehabilitate them, we retrain them and we use them for people to ride," said Victoria Hall, owner of Horses Unlimited.

The camp starts Monday and lasts until Thursday. The camp will be four hours each day.

Hall says its for all children regardless of skill level for horseback riding.

"I think each child can improve differently," said Hall. "Some of them through confidence and some of them through their horsemanship skills and some of them just coming out and making new friends."

During the camps, kids with work with the horses, learn their personalities and ride then in the arena.

"It's gonna be a full education with good horse and horses that they may not feel comfortable with so they can learn how to behave and so they can learn the horses personality."

The entry fee is $200 and goes directly to the center and helps feed, house, care and for a new shade for the pasture horses.

The camp will follow social distancing guidelines and temperatures will be checked daily.
