Police Say Couple Left Kids In SUV While They Drank Margaritas

AUSTIN, TX. (AP) – Police say 2 kids left in a hot sport-utility vehicle while their parents drank margaritas near Austin were sweaty but not injured.

Their parents, Beatriz Pedroza and Miguel Lopez, were arrested and charged with abandoning or endangering a child. That’s after Hutto police say they found their 1-year-old son and 5-month-old daughter in an SUV Sunday.

According to an arrest affidavit, Pedroza admits she’d been on Sixth Street in Austin earlier in the day, then drove drunk to the Hutto restaurant with the children in the car. A passer-by called police after spotting the children. Police estimate they’d been in the car for about a half hour. The children have been released to a family member.
