Early Voting Begins For Issues Around The Borderland
EL PASO, TX. – Early voting around the regionbegan Mondayand there were a variety of issues on the ballot, some affecting statewide change while others involve our local region.
Proposition(2) in the Texas Constitutional Amendment Election would provide half a billion dollars to help finance low-cost college tuition loans. Proposition (12) would provide$5 billion dollars in bonds for state highway improvement projects.
Proposition(15) isfor $3 billion dollars in bonds for research across Texas to help find causes of and cures for cancer. There are 16 state propositions in all.
Local issues on the ballot includethe start of early voting for the children’s hospital initiative.Voters can either vote for or against allocating $120 million dollars to build a stand-alone children’s hospital. For the last few weeks, those in favor of creating the hospital have been knocking on doors, trying to educate potential voters on the issue.
Early voting also began Monday for the Socorro Independent School District’s nearly $400 million dollar bond.SISD officials say if the bond fails, students would be the ones suffering. Not allSISD taxpayers and employees support the bond.
Residentscan find online message boards where some vent their frustrations with the district and embattled superintendent Dr. Sylvia Atkinson.
