Defendant’s grandfather gives emotional testimony on day 3 of Johnny Gonzalez murder trial

Emotional testimony in the capital murder trial of Juan “Johnny” Gonzalez on Friday as his grandfather took the stand in the morning.

Gonzalez is accused of fatally beating El Paso Police officer Jonathan Molina in 2012. Prosecutors say it happened after Molina saw a group of teens keying his car and confronted them.

During Friday’s testimony, Gonzalez’s grandfather, Efren Gonzalez, described his relationship with Johnny and said Johnny was always receptive to his words of advice.

“I usually take a cup of coffee, my grandson and two lawn chairs to talk to him and things about life,” Efren said.

A private investigator also took the stand Friday.

He testified that he went to the scene and described the sidewalks were uneven and can cause someone to trip easily.
