ABC-7 First Alert Continues – More Wet Weather Arrives Next Week. Some Flooding Potential.

First, this weekend looks good. We have a much quieter and generally drier weather pattern for the Borderland. High temperatures will be close to seasonal averages, giving us a brief break from the active weather pattern.

However, that break may be short-lived.

The weather pattern begins to change Sunday into Monday as the forecast models come into better agreement on the track of Hurricane Polo.

By Sunday afternoon, Polo is expected to be off the coast of Baja California. Early Monday, the system is forecast to recurve northward and eventually northeastward, while a disturbance drops into Southern California. This could help pull a significant amount of tropical moisture northward into the Borderland.

By Tuesday, the system could continue drawing moisture associated with Polo into the region while pulling the remnants of the system northeastward across northern Mexico. This setup could bring the potential for heavy rains Monday and Tuesday. Exactly how much rain falls — and where the heaviest rain develops — remains uncertain. The forecast will continue to be refined as we get closer to Monday, so make sure to keep checking ABC-7 throughout the weekend for updates on rainfall timing and potential totals.
