Closing arguments begin in Johnny Gonzalez murder trial

Closing arguments are taking place in the capital murder trial of Juan “Johnny” Gonzalez.

He is on trial for the beating death of off-duty El Paso Police Officer Jonathan Molina nearly two years ago.

Prosecutors say it happened after Molina saw a group of teens keying his car and he confronted them.

Last week saw a key witness plead the fifth, meaning he would not be giving testimony in this case.

Today, the jury got a look at text messages Gonzalez sent to his girlfriend after the incident.

One said,”At first I told him to back off then he pushed me so I punched him, then I tackled him and punched him again.

Another text message said, “It’s not my fault. He was like 30 and twice my size. I’m really really really scared.
