El Paso City’s plans to improve Ramos Court after severe flood damage

It’s been three years since a levee, breached by a gopher hole, unleashed the Franklin Canal into living rooms of the Ramos Court neighborhood.

Tuesday night a community meeting was held to talk about the city’s latest improvement plans for the area and the mood was optimistic.

The city presented its plans to fully reconstruct the streets, upgrade the storm water system, the sanitary sewer lines and water lines.

The project also includes adding sidewalks, ramps, new landscaping, new street signs and new lights.

It will cost just over $1.2 million, coming from certificates of obligation, El Paso Water Utilities, and federal grants. Work is scheduled to begin in late August and be completed by spring.

A ground breaking ceremony will be held Thursday, August 7th at Ramos Court at 6 p.m. mos Court neighborhood.
