Arrive Alive: Free cab rides in El Paso for partygoers
The city of El Paso has formed a coalition to deter drunk drivers from hitting the road during the New Year’s eve-New Year’s day festivities.
The El Paso police, sheriff’s office, Sun City Cabs and No DUI have banded together to increase law enforcement and provide free rides for tipsy party goers.
No questions asked, just dial 2-1-1. The program is called “Arrive alive.”
“The thing about it is we all use these roadways. I use them, my family uses them, you use them your families,” said Sheriff Richard Wiles. “If we don’t help each other keep it safe, then it’s not safe for any of us.”
Drunk driving collisions are preventable, officials stressed.
“All tragedies are awful, and to make sure we can prevent any tragedies moving forward is the reason why we made sure to come up with a program like this,” said El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser.
Wiles and others said they hope this new addition to the program will allow people to make better decisions.
“There could be nothing worse than waking up in a jail cell, a hospital, or not even waking up,” Wiles said. “So we hope people will use this info to be responsible for themselves.
The sheriff’s office has extra grant funding from TXDOT and will have more deputies within city limits city tonight to help the police department catch drunk drivers.
Remember, all you have to do is dial 2-1-1 and a cab will take you back home. There is no distance limit and the ride will take you anywhere throughout El Paso.
