Teen changes plea in NM car chase case

authorities on a high speed car chase last month–pleaded no contest today. our new mexico mobile newsroom was in the courtroom this morning as edwin rodriguez faced an alamogordo judge. he and four other teens are accused of robbing four el paso businesses then leading authorities on a high speed chase from el paso into new mexico along highway 54 last month. rodriguez is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a stolen vehicle, tampering with evidence, and conspiracy among others. today–the teen changed his plea from not guilty to ‘no contest’ otero county’s assistant district attorney tells abc-7, because the crimes were committed in both texas and new mexico–rodriguez will face a judge in both states: “after the final disposition, which will probably be in early december, regardless of whether the outcome is probation, or some sort of commitment here, texas will come up for the proceedings in texas.” rodriquez faces anywhere from two years probation to two years at a juvenile facility in new mexico. rodriguez will be held in gallup–until he’s ordered to appear in court again in december. the intersection of
