UTEP guard Tim Cameron says he is leaving the program

UTEP freshman guard Tim Cameron said in a note on Twitter Wednesday night that he is leaving the program to continue his playing career elsewhere.

Cameron is the second player to declare he is leaving UTEP in the past two weeks.

Chris Barnes, also a freshman guard, recently informed UTEP that he would be seeking more playing time at another school.

Cameron played sparingly this past season for the Miners, playing behind star guards Dominic Artis and Omega Harris.

However, he still praised the UTEP coaching staff in a farewell on Twitter.

Cameron posted the following in a screenshot on the social media site:

“I’m grateful for all the things I’ve learned this past year at UTEP. I’m also thankful for having the opportunity to play for such a historic school and coaching staff. But after much thought and prayer with my family, I have decided to transfer and continue my athletic and academic career elsewhere.”

Cameron is originally from Norcross, Georgia. He led Norcross High School to the Elite 8 or better three times during his prep career. He then spent a year at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia before beginning his career with the Miners.

Cameron has not yet indicated where he plans to transfer.
