Chihuahuas fall to Las Vegas on late home run Friday night
Josh Rodriguez came off the bench to hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning for the Las Vegas 51s, breaking a 2-2 tie and helping Vegas secure a 4-2 win.
The two teams have now split the first two games of the season. They will meet three more times over the next three days.
The Chihuahuas fell behind 1-0 early, but Diego Goris tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double.
The Dogs then fell behind again, entering the bottom of the 8th trailing 2-1. But the Dogs answered again as Rafael Ortega recorded a game-tying RBI single.
The teams appeared as if they could be headed for extra innings until Rodriguez launched a pitch high and deep to left field to break the 2-2 deadlock in the top of the ninth.
The Dogs were without star outfielder Jabari Blash, who was called up to the Padres before the game.
The Chihuahuas fell to 1-1 on the season with the loss.
