Chihuahuas fall 2-0 to Las Vegas ahead of 7-game road trip

The Chihuahuas ended their five-game series with the Las Vegas 51s with a 2-0 loss Monday at Southwest University Park.

The Dogs still won the series, three games to two. They will now play seven straight road games, beginning tomorrow at Tacoma.

The Chihuahuas will play four against Tacoma before a three-game series at Reno. They’ll then return to Southwest University Park on April 18.

The Chihuahuas and 51s were tied at 0-0 most of the game, until the 51s broke through in the 7th inning. They loaded the bases on three straight walks, then Phillip Evans hit a grounder to Chihuahuas third baseman Diego Goris. Goris was able to step on the bag at third for one out, but overthrew Jamie Romak at first attempting a double play. The error allowed Vegas to take a 1-0 lead.

The 51s then added a second run in the next inning on an RBI single by Amed Rosario.

Goris made up for his poor throw with his bat, tallying three hits in the game. The Chihuahuas as a team only recorded five total, with the other two coming courtesy of Jose Pirela.

The shutout loss marked the first time the Chihuahuas failed to score a run in a game this season.
