Hundreds attend 39th annual Northeaster parade

This Easter weekend, you’ll probably be out celebrating some family traditions.

But one tradition in North East El Paso has been going 39 years strong.

Hundreds watched and marched in the 39th annual Northeaster Parade Saturday.

Cheerleaders, marching bands, monster trucks, and law enforcement officials walked the the 1.5 mile route that began at Magoffin Middle School as on lookers took pictures and cheered.

“It’s a family tradition,” El Pasoan Luis Matos said.

Matos watched the parade in support of his kids who were in it.

“I’m a truck driver, so when I’m in town, we come together,” Matos said. “That’s what I look froward to. That’s why I’m out on the road, making a better living for my family.”

This year’s parade Grand Marshal was El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser.

The parade is the only Easter parade in El Paso since 1978.
